Arkansas Highway 95: Morrilton to Hattieville

If you’re looking for a taste of classic Arkansas, the stretch of Highway 95 between Morrilton and Hattieville is a great place to start. Spanning just about 7 miles, this drive may be short, but it packs in that small-town, rural charm that makes these backroads so memorable. We begin our journey at the busy interchange with Interstate 40, right on the north edge of Morrilton. This is one of those gateways where the hum of interstate traffic fades almost instantly, giving way to the slower, more relaxed pace of a true Arkansas state highway.

Heading northeast out of Morrilton, you’ll notice the scenery shifts quickly. The road first cuts through the outskirts of town, where you might spot some new construction zones—a sign of ongoing change even in these quieter corners of the state. As you roll on, the setting transforms into classic Arkansas countryside, dotted with fields, patches of woodland, and the occasional farmhouse. After a short stretch, you’ll reach the intersection with Arkansas Highway 247, a crossroad that connects you to even more rural adventures if you’re up for a detour.

Once you turn north, Arkansas Highway 95 settles into its rhythm, winding gently through the rural landscape. This part of the drive is especially peaceful, surrounded by a patchwork of farmland and tree-lined sections that give you glimpses of the Ouachita foothills in the distance. It’s not uncommon to see tractors working in the fields or to pass the occasional roadside produce stand, especially in the warmer months. The traffic is typically light, making this an ideal segment if you want to just cruise and take in the view—or maybe catch a sunrise or sunset over the fields. Keep an eye out for wildlife, too, especially deer in the early morning or evening hours.

As you approach Hattieville, the landscape starts to hint at the town’s small but close-knit community vibe. The road crosses open country before meeting Arkansas Highway 213 right outside Hattieville, where our drive comes to an end. From here, you can head west into Hattieville itself, where you’ll find a few local businesses, churches, and that authentic rural Arkansas atmosphere. For road trip enthusiasts, this drive serves as a perfect connector—linking the town of Morrilton, known for its proximity to Petit Jean State Park, with the quieter communities up north. If you have extra time, consider exploring nearby attractions like Petit Jean Mountain, or take AR-213 for another scenic jaunt through the countryside.
