Interstate 75: Atlanta to Marietta – Georgia

Hop on Interstate 75 with us as we travel 15 bustling miles north from the heart of Atlanta up to Marietta, Georgia. This stretch of I-75 is one of the busiest and most vital highway corridors in the Southeast, carrying commuters, travelers, and plenty of Atlanta’s daily traffic flow. We begin our journey merging onto I-75 from the eastbound lanes of Interstate 20, just southeast of downtown Atlanta, a stone’s throw from the iconic city skyline. From here, we skirt the eastern edge of downtown, passing key interchanges that funnel cars around Georgia State University and the busy Five Points district.

Swinging northwest, our route aligns with Georgia Highway 10 briefly, helping us weave around central Atlanta without plunging straight through its urban core. Just past North Avenue, the corridor straightens out to a true northbound course. Keep an eye out on the right as we pass by the prestigious Georgia Institute of Technology—home to one of the leading engineering schools in the country. The highway continues to partner with I-85 through the city’s dense urban neighborhoods, forming the well-known Downtown Connector. Once past the interchange where I-85 splits northeast, I-75 stands on its own, threading its way through Midtown’s skyline and into the tree-lined residential districts that define Atlanta’s northern arc.

As we push further north, the high-rise buildings fade into upscale neighborhoods and sprawling office parks, hallmark features of Atlanta’s ever-expanding northern suburbs. Soon, we meet Interstate 285, also known as “The Perimeter,” which loops around the entire Atlanta metro. Here, we pass close to Cumberland, a major commercial hub boasting shopping centers like Cumberland Mall and The Battery Atlanta—home of Truist Park and the Atlanta Braves. Continuing on I-75, we briefly skirt the eastern boundary of Dobbins Air Reserve Base, one of Georgia’s key military and aviation facilities, with occasional glimpses of aircraft and hangars just off the shoulder.

Our short but lively trek concludes at the Delk Road exit, right on the doorstep of Marietta, a city rich with Civil War history and charming Southern hospitality. For travelers wanting to explore further, Marietta Square offers local dining, quaint shops, and museums only a few minutes west of the interstate. Whether you’re commuting, road-tripping, or just exploring metro Atlanta, this stretch of I-75 blends urban energy with suburban comfort, making it a snapshot of Georgia’s capital region in motion.
